Rare Coins Investing

People wanting gold are mainly interested in this market for two reasons; collecting and investing. Typically people looking to buy rare gold coins are doing so as collectors and want coins that are valued for their rarity, and several other factors, instead of solely their bullion value.

There are 2 basic types of gold coins available; bullion and numismatic. Bullion are coins that are purchased for their weight value. These are typically coins that are in high circulation and are of no interest among collectors. If you buy a 1oz gold bullion coin you will generally pay market value or slightly higher.

Numismatic and semi-numismatic coins are valued for their perceived rarity, metal value, quality, current demand, market sentiment, general economic and other factors. These are coins that will carry a much higher price tag than bullion coins due to the many variables that are considered. A 1oz numismatic may be 2, 5, 10, or more, times over its bullion price.

Experts in the rare gold coin industry have extensive knowledge of every coin available and must constantly research which coins are popular at the moment. For the most part, there are certain coins that will always attain a high price as over many years there is proven to be not many in existence. The only thing that would change that is if a large lot of these coins were found. If this rare occurrence happened it would change the market price for these coins and anger many collectors that paid top dollar.

An 1861 D Gold Dollar is one of those coins that is highly sought after by collectors as they are very hard to come by. Especially in today’s market where gold prices are on the rise, coins like this gain value as a rarity and bullion. The historical relevancy of this coin is the main reason collectors like it as it was issued by the Confederacy. People interested in this coin will take it in almost any condition, which shows how important feel it to be.

Another example of a highly sought after rare gold coin is the 1907 High Relief Saint-Gaudens $20 gold piece. Coins like this are very hard to come by and when wise collectors see them available, they snatch up as many as they can acquire. As said before, the value will fluctuate up and down depending on the quality of the actual coin, but almost any of these rare gold coins that are found will yield a pretty penny.

A company’s reputation will determine what kind of rare gold coins they can acquire. There must be a strong and trustworthy relationship between the two parties in order for them to deal with one another. This industry is not considered to be very high risk, in investment terms, but any time you are trading thousands of dollars in gold coins it tends to be a careful group of people you are dealing with. A good company will constantly be on the look out for you to find the best numismatics on the market that will not only enhance your collection but also prove to be a valuable investment.
